In our climate, your air conditioner works almost nine months of the year. A little preparation in spring goes a long way.

Start with the easy wins

Some of the most helpful steps take a few minutes and cost almost nothing. Do these first.

  • Replace the air filter

  • Clear leaves, grass, and debris from around the outdoor unit

  • Trim plants so there are at least two feet of space around it

  • Make sure vents and return grilles are open and unblocked

  • Test your thermostat and replace its batteries

Check the drain line

Florida humidity means your system makes a lot of condensation. Look for water around the indoor unit, and pour a cup of vinegar into the drain line access as a gentle monthly flush, if your system has one. If you see standing water, call us.

Run a test before you need it

Turn the system on for a short test while the weather is still mild. Listen for new noises, check that the air gets cool, and watch for water or odd smells. It is much better to find a problem now than on the first hot day.

Look at the outdoor unit

  • The fan should spin freely and quietly

  • The unit should sit level

  • Refrigerant lines should be insulated and not damaged

  • There should be no ice or heavy rust

What to leave to a professional

A technician checks the things you cannot easily see: refrigerant levels, electrical parts, coil condition, airflow, and safety controls. These checks catch the small problems that lead to summer breakdowns.

Plan ahead, not after the fact

Spring is the best time to book a tune up. Appointments are easier to find, and you go into the hottest part of the year knowing your system has been checked. Our maintenance plans take care of the scheduling for you.
